READY FOR SOME ANSWERS?
- How does it work?
RugLock is an adhesive that you spray onto the back of your rug. Once dry, the adhesive becomes a permanent non-slip backing that is tacky enough to stick to surfaces but still easily releasable for moving and cleaning.
- Will RugLock stain or damage my floors?
No! RugLock’s water-based formula contains no harmful chemicals, so it will not stain or mar finishes of any flooring, even your precious hardwood.
- Can I spray it inside my house?
You absolutely can! RugLock is safe to spray in any room in your home, but we do recommend using a drop cloth to protect the surrounding area. You can also spray it outdoors, though watch out for that wind! When letting your rug dry, however, we recommend not leaving it in cold temperatures such as outside or in basements or garages.
- Oops! I over-sprayed RugLock and it got on my floor! What should I do?
If you got too excited and missed the mark, just grab a wet cloth and wipe it up before it dries.
- I peeled up my rug, and now there’s residue! How do I get this stuff off my floor?
Not a problem! Residue happens sometimes. Simply wipe with a damp cloth or rub off with your hand. Please don’t use abrasive techniques or force on your hardwood floors!
- But RugLock is an aerosol! Is it really safe to use in my home?
Yes, it is very safe! Despite all that fine print we’re required to list for using an aerosol spray, RugLock contains no harmful chemicals (0.0 g/mL VOCs for you nerds) and is eco-friendly. In fact, it’s one of very few Green Seal™ certified aerosol products, making it safe to spray around your pets, children, elderly or pregnant/breastfeeding moms.
- What are VOCs?
VOCs are volatile organic compounds that are found in a large group of both artificial and natural chemicals. Because they have a high vapor pressure at room temperature, VOCs are most often associated with scents or odors. While many man-made VOCs are a risk to indoor air quality, RugLock’s 0.0 g/mL VOCs do not cause any harmful effects. In fact, many of our customers either don’t notice the smell of RugLock or describe it as pleasant smelling!
- Can I use RugLock on my outdoor rugs?
Unfortunately, no. While RugLock is highly water resistant, its anti-slip properties decrease in wet conditions. Though you might find success in an outdoor application of RugLock, testing of RugLock was almost exclusively done in dry, indoor environments. Therefore, RugLock is not approved for outdoor rug application.
- Can I use RugLock on this crazy special rug or project?
There will most certainly be some things you can’t or won’t want to use RugLock on, such as thrift store finds, value-appreciating rugs like Orientals or your uncle Larry’s toupée. But we are not one for limiting creativity, so we recommend testing a small area first, letting RugLock dry and evaluating your results. Make sure to share your ideas with us on Facebook or Instagram!
- How soon can I start using my newly improved rug?
We recommend letting RugLock dry for a minimum of 8 hours, preferably overnight.
- How much coverage do I get out of a can?
A 10oz can covers up to 30 ft2, while a 16oz can covers up to 50 ft2.
- How should I store this product?
Product should be stored at room temperature. Whatever you do, DON’T LET IT FREEZE. We recommend keeping it in a temperature-controlled environment, such as under your kitchen sink or in your pantry. Basements and garages most often get too cold for your can of water-based RugLock.
- What is the product’s shelf-life?
RugLock will last 3 years, but why wait that long? Get inspired!
- What do I do if my rug stops sticking to my floors?
If RugLock loses tack, simply wipe clean with a damp cloth to remove dust, hair and dirt. Then allow rug to dry, and tack will return.
- Can I wash it?
The RugLock side of your rug can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, removing any hair, lint and dirt and restoring tack. For spills, dirt and stains on your rug, traditional methods like carpet cleaner and hand washing can be done safely. Do not use a dryer. Hang dry only.
- How often should I use it?
One use of the proper spray pattern will be permanent and should do the trick. It will only need to be wiped clean with a damp cloth or hand-washed if dirty to restore tack.
- How much should I be using at one time?
The amount you should use depends on your application, which is based on the size and porosity of the rug. Click here to see spray pattern pictures for the amount we recommend.
- Is it FDA approved?
RugLock is not a food nor a drug, so the FDA does not regulate it.
- What’s with the fine print warnings on the label?
Government regulations require that all aerosol products have standard warnings listed on them for transportation, handling and storage due to the compressed gasses contained in cans. We assure you that RugLock’s 0.0 g/mL VOCs water-based formula contains no harmful chemicals, and when your can is empty, it is 100% recyclable.
